My name is Valeriy Yshakov. I am 11 years old and I am from Russia. This summer I have read my first book in English and I would like to share my impression of the book with you.

One summer day I was looking for a new book to read. My English teacher at school once told us that we know English quite well to read books, so I decided to try. I looked at the upper shelf of my bookcase and found a book which had a great impression on me. Firstly I thought that it would be about the Wizard, who lived in a big castle and people and animals came to him from all around the world to become happy. But when I began to read this book I understood that I was wrong.

Dorothy, the main character of the book, lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone arrives, and picks her, her house, and her dog up and deposits them in the land of Oz. Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home. She is helped by the Good Witch of the North, but she is also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for the death of her sister; the Wicked Witch of the East, for which she blames Dorothy.

This book changed me a lot. I understood that kindness always helps people to go thorough all the troubles. Most of all I liked the episode when The Wicked Witch of the West wanted to kill Dorothy but Dorothy survived thanks to her bravery and courage. Reading this book I was always thinking how I would like to be such a kindhearted, brave, courageous person, to help my friends and people all around me.

I think the author did a great job. I am sure it took him a lot of time to write such a great book. I believe that this book affected not only me but my friends who also decided to read this book after I had told them about it during the lesson of English.

I strongly believe that every book carries very important information for the reader. Every book tries to change our minds, hearts and souls in some way. I will never forget the summer I have read this book and got so much pleasure. And for all of this I would like to thank the author.
